Nagi

Japanese: ナギ
Nagi
An evergreen tall tree of the Podocarpaceae family. It grows wild in the mountains of warm regions such as Honshu (west of Kinki) to Okinawa and Taiwan, and is also planted in gardens. The leaves are broadly lanceolate, opposite each other, thick and shiny, with parallel veins, and are dioecious. They flower from May to June. The male flower spikes are yellowish-white and cylindrical, while the female flowers are green and grow in the leaf axils. The fruits are spherical and ripen to a whitish-blue color in October to November. The wood is dense (honey) and is used for furniture.
