Pareto's law

Japanese: パレート法則 - パレートほうそく（英語表記）Pareto’s law

The first empirical law discovered regarding income distribution patterns. In 1897, V. Pareto proposed that if income level is y , the total number of people with an income above y is N , and A and p are constants, then the relationship N = Ay ^{- p} ( A > 0, p > 1) approximately holds. This relationship is called the Pareto Law. The parameter p is called the Pareto index, and the smaller its value, the more unequal the distribution. The Gini Law, which was discovered later, is also known to be equivalent to the Pareto Law, except in the case of perfect equality.

所得分布の型について最初に見いだされた経験法則。所得水準をy,y以上の所得を有する総人員数をNとし，A,pを定数とすれば，　N＝Ay^－p　　(A＞0,p＞1)　という関係が近似的に成立することを1897年にV.パレートは提唱した。この関係をパレート法則という。パラメーターpはパレート指数とよばれ，その値が小さいほど分布は不平等となる。後に発見されたジニ法則も完全平等の場合を除けばパレート法則と同等であることが知られている。
