Its official name is Zamora de Hidalgo. It is a city in the northwest of Michoacán, in southwest Mexico. It is located in the Zamora Valley, at the southwestern edge of the Mexican Plateau, about 320 km west-northwest of Mexico City, at an altitude of about 1,560 m. It was built in 1540 as a defense base for the Spanish against the Indians. It is currently the commercial and industrial center of the surrounding agricultural and pastoral areas, distributing corn, wheat, beans, fruits, vegetables, and livestock, and manufacturing dairy products and candy. It is also a major producer of handicrafts such as shawls, jewelry, pottery, and sandals. The main road from Mexico City to Guadalajara passes through it. Population: 145,079 (1990 estimate).

The capital of Zamora province in the Autonomous Community of Castile and Leon in northwestern Spain. It faces the Douro River. It was once the main city of the Kingdom of Leon, and was a strategic base in the early days of the Reconquista. It is a crossroads of railways that cross and transverse the Iberian Peninsula. It distributes agricultural products such as wine and wheat and their processed products, and produces wool and cotton textiles. It has a fort (8th century), a Romanesque cathedral (12th century), and an arch bridge (14th century). Population: 66,002 (2006 estimate).

It is located about 130 km south of Cuenca, at the southeastern foot of the Zamora Mountains in the Andes, on the south bank of the Zamora River, a part of the Amazon River system. The settlement is centered around a mission, and most of the residents are Indians. It is the trading center of the region, and goods are traded mainly by barter. A road connects it to Loja, about 30 km west-northwest. Population 8,048 (1990).
