This is a book of divination consisting of 107 chapters written by the 6th century Indian erudite astrologer Bharahamihira. It belongs to the Samhita, one of the three major fields of divination, and its original purpose is to discuss omens, but it treats not only celestial phenomena, but also all natural phenomena, including weather, natural disasters, animals, plants, minerals, and humans, as omens, and it also covers social activities such as politics, military, and economics, as well as all personal activities such as clothing, food, housing, festivals, travel, and marriage. His knowledge of traditional Indian sciences such as astronomy, astrology, medicine, grammar, rhythm, and ritual science is fully displayed in this work, making it a true encyclopedia that brings together ancient Indian culture.

6世紀インドの博学の占星家バラーハミヒラが著した107章からなる占いの書。占いの三大分野の一つ〈サンヒター〉に属するから，本来の目的は前兆について論ずることであるが，天象のみならず，気象，天変地異，動物，植物，鉱物および人間を含む自然界のあらゆる現象を前兆として扱い，政治，軍事，経済など社会的な営みと，衣服，食物，住居，祭事，旅行，結婚などあらゆる個人的営みとが占われるべき対象になっている。そこで天文学，占星術，医学，文法学，韻律学，祭式学などインドの伝統的な学問に対する彼の知識が遺憾なく発揮され，まさにインド古代文化を集成した百科全書ともいうべき側面をもっている。
