A family of German architects from the 14th century. They were active in Cologne, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Ulm, Regensburg, Prague, Freiburg, Nuremberg, and other cities, and had a great influence on German architecture and sculpture at the time. The first member of the family, Heinrich von Gmünd (date of birth and death unknown), built the elevated chancel of the Church of the Holy Cross (Heiligkreuzkirche) in Schwäbisch Gmünd (construction started in 1351), which marks the beginning of Late Gothic architecture in Germany.
