...Especially since the lens system used had large aberrations, there were limitations to its effective use, and as a result, new discoveries were not continually accumulated, and new developments in microscopic observation stagnated from the 17th to the 18th century. However, expectations for microscopes were high, and in the 18th century, L. Euler of Germany and J. Dollond of England discovered that it was possible to eliminate chromatic aberration by combining lenses made of different types of glass. Although this did not immediately lead to results, it provided a perspective for research and improvement of optical glass, and at the end of the 18th century (1791), F. Beeldsnijder of the Netherlands created the first high-magnification microscope with compound lenses without chromatic aberration. ...
