Izawa

A district of Matsusaka City in central Mie Prefecture. Formerly known as Izawa Village. Located on the left bank of the Kushida River, it has been a settlement since ancient times along with Ouka on the opposite bank. It was once a base for water transportation along the Kushida River and was the center of commerce and industry in the region, located along the Kumano Kaido (National Route 42). During the Edo period, it was a bustling distribution center for Izawa Banko pottery and Izawa Keifun (Ise white powder). The Izawa Gion Festival is held in July.

三重県中部、松阪市の一地区。旧射和村。櫛田(くしだ)川左岸にあり、対岸の相可(おうか)とともに古代からの集落で、かつては櫛田川水運の拠点で、また熊野街道（国道42号）に沿い、地域の商工業の中心であった。江戸時代には射和万古(ばんこ)の陶器、射和軽粉(けいふん)（伊勢白粉(いせおしろい)）の集散地としてにぎわった。7月には射和祇園(ぎおん)祭が行われる。
