Baltoro Glacier

A large glacier in the Karakoram region of Pakistan. It is a valley glacier formed by the confluence of the Godwin-Austin Glacier, located between the world's second highest peak K2 (Chogori, 8,611 meters) and Broad Peak (8,047 meters), and the Abruzzi Glacier, whose source is Gasherbrum I (8,068 meters) and Sia Kangri I (7,422 meters). It is about 60 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide. The confluence at an altitude of 4,720 meters is called Concordia. The terminal altitude is about 3,500 meters, and the meltwater forms the source of the Shigar River, a tributary of the Indus River. There are many branch glaciers such as Bianje and Muztagh, and in 1861, the British expedition to Muztagh Glacier was the first to do so.

パキスタン領カラコルムにある大氷河。世界第二の高峰K2（チョゴリ、8611メートル）とブロード・ピーク（8047メートル）との間にあるゴドウィン・オースティン氷河と、ガッシャブルム第一峰（8068メートル）とシーア・カンリ第一峰（7422メートル）を源とするアブルッチ氷河とが合流してできた谷氷河で、全長約60キロメートル、幅約3キロメートルに及ぶ。標高4720メートルにある合流点はコンコルディアとよばれる。末端高度は約3500メートルで、融水はインダス川支流のシガール川源流をなす。ビアンジェ、ムスターグなど支氷河が多く、1861年、イギリス人ゴドウィン・オースティンが初めてムスターグ氷河までの探検を行った。
