A 100-volume collection (a kind of encyclopedia) from the early Tang Dynasty in China. It was ordered by Li Yuan of the Tang Dynasty to be completed in two or three years by Ouyang Xun and others in 624 (the 7th year of the Wude era). It is the second oldest surviving collection after the Beidou Shosho, and was considered a model for subsequent collections in terms of its structure and content. The outline is divided into 45 sections: Heaven, Seasons, Earth, Provinces, Commanderies, Mountains, Water, Talisman, Emperor, Empress, Courtiers, People, Rites, Music, Officials, Titles, Governance, Criminal Law, Miscellaneous Writings, Martial Arts, Military Equipment, Residences, Industry, Clothing, Ceremonial Decorations, Clothing, Boats and Chariots, Food, Miscellaneous Items, Arts and Crafts, Taoism, Internal Code, Miracles, Fire, Herbs, Jewels, Grains, Fruits, Trees, Birds, Beasts, Scales, Insects, Auspicious Signs, and Disasters. Each section is outlined in a general summary, with related sources listed and associated poems and prose. This book was required reading for the establishment of the Jinshi system, and similar books were published in rapid succession. It is valuable because of its precise content and the books cited have become lost. It was included in the "Gu Ji Ji" (Ancient Records and Records), compiled by Feng Wei of the Ming Dynasty. There are versions published in the 10th year of Shaoxing (1140) of the Song Dynasty, the 6th year of Jiajing (1527) of the Ming Dynasty, the 15th year of Wanli (1587), and a 16-volume facsimile published by the Zhonghua Book Bureau in Shanghai (1959). It was introduced to Japan early on and is included in the "Catalogue of Books Found in Japan."
