Founder of the Burji Mamluk dynasty. Of Circassian descent. Reigned 1382-89, 90-99. He was the military commander of the Bahri Mamluk dynasty, but took advantage of the weakening of the Bahri military and became sultan in 1382 in place of Khadji II. He gave priority to the Circassian Mamluks from the Caucasus, which led to a rebellion by the Turkish army and he was temporarily exiled, but he took advantage of internal divisions within the Turkish army to raise an army and regain the throne. He put down rebellions by Arab nomadic tribes in Egypt and Syria, defeated his Turkish political opponents, and halted Timur's westward advance, temporarily recapturing Baghdad.

ブルジー･マムルーク朝の創始者。チェルケス系。在位1382‐89,90‐99年。バフリー･マムルーク朝の軍司令官であったが，バフリー系軍人の弱体化に乗じ，1382年ハーッジー2世にかわりスルタン位につく。カフカス出身のチェルケス系マムルークを優先したためトルコ系軍団の反乱を招き，一時追放されるが，トルコ系軍団の内部分裂に乗じて挙兵し，再度スルタンに復位する。エジプト･シリアのアラブ遊牧部族の反乱を鎮圧，トルコ系の政敵を倒し，ティムールの西進を食い止めて一時バグダードを奪回する。
