…His haiku was said to be from the Kigin school, but his first collection was the five-verse Ise-odori (Ise Dance) (1668) compiled by Kayu, entitled Edo Yamaguchi-shi no Shinsho. In May 1675 (Enpo 3), he appeared with Tosei (Basho) at a haiku gathering to welcome Soin, who was visiting Edo, and the following year they published the Edo Ryoginshu together, deepening their friendship and supporting the new style of poetry of Basho and others. In 1679, he retired to live in seclusion on the banks of Shinobazu Pond in Ueno, and moved to Abu in Katsushika around 1685-86. …
