Diaspore - Diaspore (English spelling)

An aluminum ore mineral. Also called diaspore. It is in a homomorphic relationship with boehmite. It occurs in clay deposits of hydrothermal alteration origin, recrystallized limestone, greenschist, emery, etc., and also forms veins in ultramafic rocks, and is the main component of bauxite. Its euhedral shape is an oblique short column consisting of prism and pyramidal faces, or a flat plate shape on the b axis. In Japan, it is often found in clay deposits, together with pyrophyllite, kaolinite, and corundum. Mitsuishi, Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, and Shokozan, Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture are famous production areas. Its English name comes from the Greek word for "scatter," and is derived from the fact that the crystals fly apart when heated.

アルミニウムの鉱石鉱物の一つ。ジアスポルともいう。ベーム石と同質異像関係にある。熱水変質起源の粘土鉱床、再結晶石灰岩、緑色片岩、エメリー中などに産し、また超塩基性岩中に脈をなすほか、ボーキサイトの主成分をなす。自形は柱面と錐(すい)面とからなる斜方短柱状、あるいはb軸に扁平(へんぺい)な板状をなす。日本では多く粘土鉱床中に産し、葉ろう石、カオリナイト、コランダムなどと産する。岡山県備前市三石(みついし)、広島県庄原(しょうばら)市勝光山(しょうこうざん)などは有名な産地である。英名はギリシア語の散乱を意味し、加熱によって結晶が飛散することに由来する。
