…In 1852 (the second year of the Xianfeng era), he went to Shanghai and translated Euclid's Stoichia together with the British missionary A. Wylie, and published the latter part of the 9 volumes of Geometry. He also translated Algebra and Calculus 10 together with Wylie, and translated Zhongxue together with another British missionary J. Edkins, introducing European mathematics. He was also knowledgeable about traditional Chinese mathematics, and published 24 volumes of 13 books with his own preface from the 6th year of the Tongzhi era (1867) under the title Zhongxue Zhi. …
