Hayashimono (musical accompaniment) - Hayashimono

Japanese:
Hayashimono (musical accompaniment) - Hayashimono
This is a type of performing art of the Furyuu style that was popular in the late Middle Ages, and is also written as "Hyōshimono". The performance mainly focuses on elegant umbrellas, and involves people in elaborate costumes and artifacts, accompanied by flutes, drums, small drums, and gongs, and often includes singing. A dozen or so people form a group and go around key locations while accompany- ing the Matsubayashi festival on New Year's Day, the Sagichō festival, Bon festivals, and festivals, and the specific details of these are described in the Kanmon Nikki and Katsuragawa Jizo-ki. From the mid-Muromachi period onwards, dancers began to accompany the musicians, and Furyu Odori was born.
