Asymptotic formula - recurrence formula

Japanese: 漸近式 - ぜんきんしき（英語表記）recurrence formula

For a function f ( x ) defined in domain D and a boundary point a of D , if there exists a function g ( x ) such that g ( x ) is called the asymptotic formula of f ( x ) as x approaches a . Let us express this as f ( x ) ~ g ( x ). An example of this is Stirling's formula, which gives the asymptotic formula for the gamma function, when x → +∞. Asymptotic formulas are also sometimes used in relation to sequences. For a sequence { a _n }, if there exists a sequence { b _n } such that { a _n } and { b _n } are said to be asymptotically equal.

領域Dで定義された関数f(x)とDの境界点aに対して，となる関数g(x)が存在するとき，g(x)をxがaに近づくときのf(x)の漸近式という。これをf(x)～g(x)と表すことにする。x→＋∞のときのガンマ関数，の漸近式を与えるスターリングの公式，はこの例である。漸近式は数列に関しても使われることがある。数列｛a_n｝に対して，となる数列｛b_n｝が存在するとき，｛a_n｝と｛b_n｝は漸近的に等しいという。
