Tulsa - Tarusa (English spelling) Tulsa

An oil and industrial city in the oil fields of northeastern Oklahoma, United States. Population 393,049 (2000). Located east of the confluence of the Arkansas River and the Cimarron River. In 1971, the McClellan-Kair Seaway (708 km long) connecting the city to the Gulf of Mexico was opened, and the city became an inland port. The city's main industry is oil, and there are large refineries and petrochemical plants, as well as many oil-related companies and research institutes. Metalworking, machinery, and aircraft manufacturing, as well as meat and dairy processing, are also important. With the opening of the railroad in 1882, the city flourished as a beef cattle export point, and developed rapidly after the discovery of oil in the surrounding area in 1901. The city is characterized by its many parks and well-planned residential areas.
