Hami
An oasis city in the eastern part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. Its Chinese characters are Hami. It is the intersection of the Tianshan South and North Roads, and is located along the Lanzhou-Urumqi Railway and the highway, making it a key transportation hub between Gansu and Xinjiang. The land is fertile and has a well-developed irrigation system. It produces wheat, beans, fruits, and cattle, and is famous for its melons. Coal, gold, and lead are also found nearby. Population: 470,000 (2014).
