Kawaguchi Onkai

Japanese: 川口音海 - かわぐちおんかい
Kawaguchi Onkai

...Also called "taishokin." Invented in the early Taisho era by Nagoya tsukikin player Kawaguchi Onkai (Jinzaburo), also known as Morita Goro. A piano keyboard was applied to a two-stringed koto, and a push button, such as that on a typewriter or cash register, was attached. By pressing the button with the left hand, the strings were pressed against a music board attached to the top, making it easy to produce a series of notes spaced by semitones.
