During the Edo period, it flourished as a market town trading silk, grains, etc., and during the Meiji period, Kimura Kuzo (1845-96) founded the Kyoshinsha Sericulture School (now Kodama Agricultural and Industrial High School) and devoted himself to sericulture education. Currently, vegetable and dairy farming is carried out in the area. …
