A marine fish of the Lutjanidae family in the order Perciformes (illustration). Although it has the word "tai" (sea bream) in its name, it is not a member of the sea bream family. It has a wide distribution, living in deep waters of over 200m off the coasts of central and southern Honshu, Okinawa, the Philippines, Hawaii, East Africa, Mauritius, and the Seychelles. It is caught by pole fishing or vertical line fishing. The entire body is reddish, but the back is more crimson and the abdomen is closer to silvery white. The fins and inside of the mouth are also red. It is also known as akachibiki (Tanabe) and akamachi (Okinawa). Its English name is ruby ​​snapper.

スズキ目フエダイ科の海産魚(イラスト)。タイとはつくが,タイの仲間ではない。分布が広く,本州中部以南,沖縄,フィリピン,ハワイ,東アフリカ,モーリシャス,セーシェルなどの沿岸の200m以深とかなり深いところにすむ。一本釣り,あるいは立縄で漁獲。体全体が赤みを帯びるが,背部は紅色が強く,腹部は銀白色に近くなる。ひれと口の中も紅色。アカチビキ(田辺),アカマチ(沖縄)の呼名がある。英名はruby snapper。
