Also written as 'Kanhan'. One of the dishes on the menu, and a banquet ceremony. 'Kanhan' originally meant a meal prepared to entertain, and later came to be used simply to mean banquet. In the Heian period, when there were events held in the imperial court, such as seasonal festivals and seasonal festivals, rice was served in a bowl on a pedestal with sake, snacks, and sweets. This was not served spontaneously, but was procured by the nobles who received special orders, and was neither a regular nor ceremonial event, but was a kind of bento, or light meal.
