Dynamic psychiatry was proposed and developed by A. Meyer and his school, and together with S. Freud's theories, it formed the basis of American psychiatry. It sees mental disorders as pathological reactions that a personality has to the social situation it finds itself in. The personalities of mentally ill people are thought to be formed with a certain distortion due to parent-child relationships in early childhood and subsequent psychological and social factors, on top of constitution and genetic background, and a certain type of reaction in a certain situation is considered to be a mental disorder.
