Native Americans who lived mainly in the areas of Pennsylvania, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. They were semi-sedentary and cultivated corn. Tribes consisting of matrilineal clans with totems developed into tribal confederations, which had political structures based on elections and opposed the French colonial period.
