A general term for birds of the family Finchidae (Finchidae) and subfamily Carduelinae (Ardisia). Of the family Finchidae, there are about 20 genera and 122 species of Finchidae, excluding one genus and three species of Finchidae. Although they are also called finches, the term finches as pet birds often refers to birds of the family Estrildidae. Well-known pet birds such as the Bengalese finch, Java sparrow, zebra finch, gouldian finch, red sparrow, golden mullet, and silver mullet are representative of finches, but all of them belong to the family Estrildidae. On the other hand, birds with the name "finch" such as the green siskin, euramerican siskin, redpoll, and goldfinch are all birds of the family Finchidae.
