A prison memoir by the British author O. Wilde. The abridged edition (1905) edited by R. Ross was given this title (a phrase from the Bible's Psalms), but the complete edition published in 1949 was titled Epistle, in Carcere et Vinculis, indicating that it was written from prison. It is an 80-page letter addressed to Bothy (Sir A. Douglas), his partner in a homosexual affair, while he was incarcerated in Reading Prison. The original was sent by Wilde to his close friend Ross, who donated it to the British Museum. Although it is full of complaints about Douglas, it is also important for its remarkable theory of Hamlet, especially Christology, which was based on his meditations in prison.
