Hanyu [city] - Hanyu

Japanese: 羽生[市] - はにゅう

A city in northeastern Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies an alluvial plain on the south bank of the Tone River. The city center was once a castle town in the late Middle Ages, but developed as a market town in the early modern period. It is served by the Chichibu Railway, the Tobu Isesaki Line, and the Tohoku Expressway. It was known for manufacturing school uniforms, work clothes, and other clothing, but since the construction of an industrial complex in the 1970s, its main products have been electrical equipment, transportation equipment, and general machinery. The rural areas are the prefecture's grain-producing region, producing large amounts of rice and vegetables. 58.64 ^km2 . Population: 56,204 (2010).

埼玉県北東部の市。1954年市制。利根川南岸の沖積平野を占める。中心市街は中世末，一時城下町であったが，近世は市場町として発達。秩父鉄道，東武伊勢崎線，東北自動車道が通じる。学生服，作業服など被服の製造で知られたが，1970年代に工業団地が造成されてからは，電気機器，輸送用機器，一般機器が主力となっている。農村部は県の穀倉地帯で米，野菜を多産。58.64km²。５万6204人（2010）。
