Random sampling - musakyuu chuushū

Japanese: 無作為抽出 - むさくいちゅうしゅつ

Also known as voluntary selection or random sampling. A method of sampling in sample surveys. A sample is selected so that every unit or quantity of a population has an equal chance of being included in the sample. The sample thus obtained faithfully represents the trends of the entire population and the laws of probability can be applied. Usually, items are numbered, and the corresponding items are selected randomly using a random number table to create a sample.

任意抽出，ランダム・サンプリングとも。標本調査における抽出法の一つ。母集団に属するどの単位体または単位量も，等しい確率で標本に入るように標本を抽出すること。こうして得られた標本は母集団全体の傾向を忠実に表し，また確率の法則を適用できる。ふつう品物に番号をつけ，乱数表を用いてランダムに番号を選んで対応する品物を抽出し標本とする。
