A type of mineral. Its chemical composition is Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , but usually some of the Ca 2+ is replaced by small amounts of Mn 2+ , Fe 2+ , Mg 2+ , etc., and some of the PO 4 3- is replaced by small amounts of CO 3 2- . It belongs to the hexagonal crystal system and sometimes forms plate-like crystals, but can also form granular aggregates or soil-like structures. It is colorless, white, or gray, with a Mohs hardness of 5 and a specific gravity of 3.15. It has been reported that it occurs in pegmatites accompanied by phosphate minerals such as quartz, siderite, and apatite as end products, and that it occurs in phosphate rocks.
