Hanasanjin - Hanasanjin

Japanese:
Hanasanjin - Hanasanjin

A comic writer in the late Edo period. He was also known as Tourisanjin and Kuyotei. He was originally a shogunate yoriki (police officer) under the name Hosokawa Namijiro, and became a disciple of Santo Kyoden and a comic writer. His debut work was the omnibus "Sharetsu shingata" (A new style of writing), published in 1807 (Bunka 4), and he wrote about 70 omnibus books. He also wrote humorous stories and readings, but his forte was humorous stories and human interest stories. He produced works such as "Flowers at the Blue Tower" (1817) which marked the end of his humorous story series, and in the Bunsei era (1818-1830) he became active as a human interest story writer along with the second Nansen Shoso Manjin (Tamenaga Shunsui). However, in the Tenpo era (1830-1844), his style was supported by a nostalgic taste and a connoisseur's attitude, and he was ultimately unable to reach Shunsui's success. His representative works of human interest include "Rancho-ki" (1824), "Kuruwa Zodan" (1826), and "Awase Kagami" (1834). In his later years, he fell into poverty and made a living by selling magic trick books.
