Also called sagegami. A type of post-it note attached to official documents in the Edo period, a piece of paper pasted on the bottom edge of the document. The contents written on sagegami vary, but many contain corrections, opinions, reasons, and supplementary explanations for the text above. This is a particularly common format for documents for approval, when each person wishes to express their opinion on revisions. In some regions, tax allotment letters are also called sagegami. 下紙(さげがみ)ともいう。江戸時代の公文書に貼付された付箋の一種で,文書の下の周縁部にはり下げた紙片。下札の記載内容は種々であるが,はった上部の本文の記述についての訂正,意見,理由,補足説明などを記したものが多い。とくに稟議書類において各人の修正意見を表明する場合によく見られる形式である。なお,地方によっては年貢割付状を下札と呼んでいるところがある。【笠谷 和比古】
