...It was named "Futou-o", meaning immortality, because it always gets up even if it is rolled. It was introduced to Japan in the late Ming Dynasty and during the Muromachi period, and was originally called Futou-o, but it was eventually transformed into a child-like koboshi and became a children's toy, also called "okiagari-koboshi" or "okyagarikoboshi". Koboshi means child, and a verse from a ko-mai dance from that time reads, "There are people who are inexperienced, okiagari-koboshi, furi-tsuzumi, temari and odoru-mari, koyumi", and it is known that it was one of the representative toys of the Muromachi period. ...
