Pachelbel

German organist and composer. He served as organist for churches and courts in Vienna, Eisenach, Erfurt, Stuttgart, and his native Nuremberg, and produced a large number of keyboard pieces that combined the styles of central and southern Germany. In 1677, he met J. Ambrosius, father of JS Bach, in Eisenach, and taught his eldest son. His excellent musical technique, along with that of the North German composer Buxtehude, had a great influence on JS Bach. He also composed religious vocal and chamber music, and the canon section of his Canon and Gigue in D major for three violins and basso continuo is famous as Pachelbel's Canon.

ドイツのオルガン奏者，作曲家。ウィーン，アイゼナハ，エルフルト，シュツットガルト，生地ニュルンベルクなどで教会と宮廷のオルガン奏者を歴任し，中部および南部ドイツの様式を融合させた鍵盤(けんばん)音楽を数多く残した。1677年にはアイゼナハでJ.S.バッハの父J.アンブロジウスと知り合い，その長男を教えた。そのすぐれた音楽技法は，北ドイツのブクステフーデのそれとともにJ.S.バッハにも大きな影響を与えている。ほかに宗教的声楽曲，室内楽曲があり，３つのバイオリンと通奏低音のための《カノンとジーグ・ニ長調》のカノンの部分は〈パッヘルベルのカノン〉として有名。
