German organist and composer. He served as organist for churches and courts in Vienna, Eisenach, Erfurt, Stuttgart, and his native Nuremberg, and produced a large number of keyboard pieces that combined the styles of central and southern Germany. In 1677, he met J. Ambrosius, father of JS Bach, in Eisenach, and taught his eldest son. His excellent musical technique, along with that of the North German composer Buxtehude, had a great influence on JS Bach. He also composed religious vocal and chamber music, and the canon section of his Canon and Gigue in D major for three violins and basso continuo is famous as Pachelbel's Canon. → Related article Toccata Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
