This is the central settlement of Sakaemachi, Inba County, in northern Chiba Prefecture. Formerly known as Ajikicho. It is located in the lowlands between the Tone River and Lake Inban. It served as a town in the rice paddy area of the Nagato River basin, which is the drainage channel for Lake Inban. It was also a post town, located at the junction of the Choshi Highway along the Tone River and another road to Narita. From the mid-Edo period onwards, it developed as a base for pilgrimages to Naritasan. After the Meiji period, it fell into disuse, but after the New Tokyo International Airport (now Narita International Airport) opened in 1978 in Narita City to the east, housing complexes were developed in Ajikidai and other areas, and the town's appearance changed. Otori Shrine is the god of success and good fortune, and its annual festival in December is known as the Ajiki Toriichi Festival. On the plateau to the east, there is the nationally designated historic site of Iwaya Kofun, an experiential museum including the remains of the tower in the grounds of Ryukakuji Temple, and the prefectural "Boso no Mura." There is JR Narita Line Ajiki Station, and National Route 356 passes through the area.
