"Les poetes maudits" (English)

…It was not just an introduction, but praise based on proper evaluation. The series of essays on poets that Verlaine had published the previous year, Les poètes maudits (The Damned Poets) (1884), also helped to inform people of the new trend in poetry. The above-mentioned manifesto by Moreas was written in the circumstances outlined above. …

From Verlaine

...With the rise of the Decadent movement in the mid-1980s, he was elevated to the status of a master of the movement, but the collections of poems published under this public splendor, starting with "These Days and These Days" (1885), cannot be said to have added any new brilliance to his true literary glory, despite their enormous volume, except for the famous "Poetics" and several other excellent works. The most important works of his later years are his critiques, and his "Les poètes maudits" (1884) made the world aware of Mallarmé and Rimbaud, and together with Huysmans' "Against" (1884), had a great influence on the formation of the Symbolist school of poetry. Verlaine's introduction to Japan dates back to "Paul el-la-la-ne" (1896), which was published early by Tokyo University student Ueda Bin at the time of Verlaine's death, and was introduced by Kambara Ariake (1904)....
