Battambang. A city in western Cambodia, about 250 km northwest of the capital, Phnom Penh. It developed as a commercial center mainly due to the activities of Chinese residents, and is located on the fertile rice-growing area on the northwest shore of Tonle Sap Lake. It distributes agricultural products such as rice, cotton, cacao, jute, sugarcane, and cardamom. It is connected to Phnom Penh by rail and road. Population: 45,000 (1987 estimate).

別綴 Battambang。カンボジア西部の都市。首都プノンペンの北西約 250kmにある。中国系住民の活動によりおもに商業中心地として発展した町で，トンレサップ湖北西岸の肥沃な米作地帯を背後に控え，米を中心に，綿花，カカオ，ジュート，サトウキビ，カルダモンなどの農産物を集散する。プノンペンと鉄道，道路で結ばれる。人口4万 5000 (1987推計) 。
