Written in Achaia around 200, this is the longest work in the Apocryphal Acts of the New Testament. It describes the missionary activities and martyrdom of one of the apostles, Andrew, in Achaia. The first distinctive feature of this work is its dualistic character, that of the evil and the holy. However, this differs from Gnostic dualism and is thought to be the influence of middle Platonism. The ascetic character of this work is also largely due to the influence of Tatian. There is also a consideration of the mystery of the cross. [Kawamura Terunori] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
