Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy

This is an analytical method for quantifying elements by utilizing the phenomenon in which, when an atom is irradiated with light of a specific absorption line wavelength, the absorbed light is re-emitted as fluorescence. In other words, atomic fluorescence spectroscopy observes a phenomenon that occurs due to a two-step optical process of electronic transition: atomic absorption and atomic emission. The observed fluorescence intensity is proportional to the intensity of the incident light and to the number of atoms in the atomic vapor layer in the high-temperature medium. In experiments, a solution sample is introduced into a chemical flame (air-acetylene flame, nitrous oxide-acetylene flame, etc.), an electrically heated high-temperature carbon furnace, argon plasma, etc. to generate atoms, and light from a light source (electrodeless discharge tube, hollow cathode lamp, xenon lamp, laser, etc.) is irradiated perpendicular to the detection direction, and the fluorescence intensity is measured.

原子に固有の吸収線波長の光を照射したときに，吸収された光は再び蛍光として放射される現象を利用して元素の定量を行う分析法。すなわち，原子蛍光法では，原子吸光と原子発光という2段階の電子遷移による光過程によって起こる現象を観測する。このとき観測される蛍光強度は照射する入射光強度に比例し，また高温媒体中の原子蒸気層の原子数に比例する。実験的には，化学炎(空気‐アセチレン炎，酸化二窒素‐アセチレン炎など)，電気加熱高温炭素炉，アルゴンプラズマなどの中に溶液試料を導入して原子を生成し，光源(無電極放電管，中空陰極ランプ，キセノンランプ，レーザーなど)の光を検出方向と直角方向から照射し，蛍光強度を測定する。
