This diary was ordered to be written in 1621 at Batavia Castle (now the northern part of Jakarta), the base of the Dutch East India Company, and was abolished in 1808. It is an important historical document for understanding the economy, society, and politics of not only Indonesia but also other parts of Asia. The original Dutch text from 1624 to 1682 has been published, and there is an abridged translation by Murakami Naojiro of the articles related to Taiwan and Japan up to 1689.
