Oniasari - Ribbed little neck

A bivalve mollusca of the family Veneridae in the class Bivalvia of the phylum Mollusca. It is found from southern Hokkaido through Honshu to the Philippines, where it lives burrowing into the gravel bottom that accumulates between rocky reefs. Its shell is 50 mm long and 40 mm high, and is round and thick, with 30 to 35 thick radial ribs on the surface, held together by growing veins. The base color of the shell is gray-brown with irregular brown spots on top. The inside is white, with three main teeth and an anterior tooth on the flank. The ventral edge is finely notched. It is not abundant enough to be harvested, but is eaten in areas where it can be harvested.

軟体動物門二枚貝綱マルスダレガイ科の二枚貝。北海道南部から本州を経てフィリピンにまで分布し、岩礁の間にたまっている砂礫(されき)底に潜入生活をしている。殻長50ミリメートル、殻高40ミリメートルに達し、殻は円形で厚く、殻表には太い放射肋(ろく)が30～35本あり、成長脈によってくぎられる。殻の地色は灰褐色で、その上に褐色の不規則な色斑(しきはん)がある。内面は白く、鉸板(こうばん)に3個の主歯と前側歯がある。腹縁は細かく刻まれている。漁獲対象になるほど多産しないが、採取できる土地では食用にされる。
