A bivalve mollusca of the family Veneridae in the class Bivalvia of the phylum Mollusca. It is found from southern Hokkaido through Honshu to the Philippines, where it lives burrowing into the gravel bottom that accumulates between rocky reefs. Its shell is 50 mm long and 40 mm high, and is round and thick, with 30 to 35 thick radial ribs on the surface, held together by growing veins. The base color of the shell is gray-brown with irregular brown spots on top. The inside is white, with three main teeth and an anterior tooth on the flank. The ventral edge is finely notched. It is not abundant enough to be harvested, but is eaten in areas where it can be harvested.
