Thallus - Thallus

Plants with vascular bundles, with a few exceptions such as the pinecone, have clearly differentiated stem, leaf, and root organs, and are called stem phyllodes, whereas plants without vascular bundles, even if they are multicellular, have little tissue differentiation and do not have organ differentiation, or if they do, it is unclear, and are called thallus. However, mosses and charophytes show clear organ differentiation despite not having vascular bundles, so they can be considered intermediate between thallus and stem phyllodes.

維管束をもつ植物体は、マツバランのようなわずかな例外を除いて茎・葉・根の器官が明瞭(めいりょう)に分化していて、これらを茎葉体というのに対して、維管束をもたない植物体は、多細胞であっても組織分化が少なく、器官分化はないか、またはあっても不明瞭であるため、これらを葉状体という。ただし、蘚類(せんるい)や車軸藻類などは、維管束がないにもかかわらず明瞭な器官分化を示すので、これらは葉状体と茎葉体との中間的なものとも考えられる。
