Japanese: 若柳[町] - わかやなぎ

An old town in Kurihara County in northern Miyagi Prefecture. The Hasama River runs east to west through the center of the town. It has traditionally focused on rice farming, but in recent years has also been involved in livestock farming and horticulture. The area was prone to flooding, but the construction of the Hanayama Dam upstream has made it a good area for rice fields. The Kurihara Rural Railway and the Tohoku Expressway run through the town. In April 2005, it merged with the towns of Tsukidate, Kurikoma, Takashimizu, Hitasako, Semine, Uguisuzawa, Kanari, Shibahime, and Hanayama in Kurihara County to become a city, Kurihara City. Area: ^{52.56 km2} . Population: 14,573 (2003).

宮城県北部，栗原郡の旧町。町の中央を迫(はさま)川が東西に貫流する。古くから水稲を中心としてきたが，近年は畜産，園芸も行う。水害常襲地であったが上流に花山ダムが完成，良田となった。くりはら田園鉄道，東北自動車道が通じる。2005年４月栗原郡築館町，栗駒町，高清水町，一迫町，瀬峰町，鶯沢町，金成町，志波姫町，花山村と合併し市制，栗原市となる。52.56km²。１万4573人（2003）。
