Palace style poetry - Kyūtaishi

Japanese: 宮体詩 - きゅうたいし

This is a new style of poetry that was written by the Jianwen Emperor Xiao Gang of the Liang Dynasty during the Six Dynasties in China, when he was the crown prince, together with the literati who gathered at the Eastern Palace. It was influenced by the popular style of poetry of the time, and the folk songs of Jiangnan. From the resentment of an empty bedroom to the appearance and furnishings, the poems all have women as their theme, and are written using sensual expressions, so much so that they became known as the "Elegant Style" and spread throughout the world. A collection of these poems is the 10-volume "Yutai Shinyō" (New Poems on the Yutai) by Xu Ling, a member of the Eastern Palace literary group. [Morino Shigeo]

中国，六朝･梁の簡文帝蕭綱（しようこう）が皇太子であったとき，東宮に集まった文人たちとともに作った新体の詩で，当時さかんであった詠物の詩風と，江南の民歌の影響を受けている。空閨の怨みから，その姿態や調度品に至るまで，すべて女性をテーマとし，艶麗な表現を用いて詠まれており，艶体とも呼ばれて世に広まった。その詩を集めたものに，東宮文学集団の一人である徐陵の《玉台新詠》10巻がある。【森野繁夫】
