Japanese: 秦野[市] - はだの

A city in western Kanagawa Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The northern half is the Tanzawa Mountains, and the southern half is the Hadano Basin. The city, located in the center of the basin, was the site of regular markets during the Edo period and was called Tokaichiba. It has long been known for the cultivation of tobacco and peanuts, but with the opening of the Tomei Expressway in 1969 it developed into an inland industrial area, with electrical equipment, transportation equipment, metals, and other industries thriving. In the rural areas, horticulture and dairy farming are carried out, taking advantage of the characteristics of being located near an urban area. The Odakyu Electric Railway and Tomei Expressway pass through the city, and it is the trailhead for Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park. Area: 103.76 ^km2 . Population: 170,145 (2010).
