Desmoulins, Camille

Japanese: デムーラン(英語表記)Desmoulins, Camille
Desmoulins, Camille
Born: March 2, 1760, Aisne, Guise
Died April 5, 1794. A Montagne journalist during the French Revolution in Paris. After the attack on the Bastille, he published La France libre, a pamphlet attacking the Ancien Régime. Shortly before the death of Count Mirabeau, he began working with G. Danton, and played an active role in the uprising of August 10, 1792. He was elected from Paris in the National Convention elections in September of the same year, and became a leading figure in the attack on the Girondists. Since 1789, he has published the weekly newspaper Révolution de France et de Brabant, and in December 1793, he launched a new newspaper, Le Vieux Cordelier. At first, this movement focused on attacking the Hébert faction, and to that extent was approved by M. Robespierre, but it eventually began to advocate Danton's opinions (moderateism). As a result of its opposition to the Reign of Terror, it came under attack from Robespierre, and was arrested along with Danton at the end of March 1694, and executed on April 5th.
