Year of birth: Tenmei 1 (1781)
A Japanese classicist of the mid-Edo period. His surname was Gen, and he was also known by the names Nakadai, Yasujiro, and Inazo, and his pen name was Kotonosha. He was from Hiroshima. After moving to Osaka, he became a disciple of Motoori Norinaga. He excelled academically at a young age, and Norinaga had high hopes for him due to his energetic studies. As a faithful successor to Norinaga's learning, he wrote a succession of works, including "Murasakibunseikin," "Manyoshutashi," "Murasakibunshosoku," and "Kaesei Shinsen Shojiroku," but he had to end his promising life at the age of 29. He is also known for his interactions with Rai Sanyo.

江戸中期の国学者。姓源,通称中台,保次郎,稲蔵,号琴廼舎。広島の人。大坂に出てのち本居宣長に入門した。若くして学力優秀,しかも精力的な勉強ぶりに宣長も大いに期待した。宣長学の忠実な継承者として,『紫文製錦』『万葉梯』『紫文消息』『訂正新撰姓氏録』などを次々に著したが,29歳で前途ある生涯を閉じなければならなかった。頼山陽との交流も知られている。
