Hashimoto

A district in Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is located on the south bank of the area where the Uji River, Kizu River, and Katsura River join to form the Yodo River. The place name comes from the legend that the monk Gyoki built a bridge to the opposite bank, Yamazaki (Oyamazakicho). During the Edo period, it flourished as a post town on the Kyo-kaido road heading from Fushimi to Osaka, and a red-light district was also built there. A ferry dock connecting the opposite bank remained until the mid-Showa period. Hashimoto Station on the Keihan Main Line is located here.

京都府八幡(やわた)市の一地区。宇治(うじ)川、木津(きづ)川、桂(かつら)川が合流して淀(よど)川となる地の南岸に位置する。地名は、僧行基(ぎょうき)が対岸山崎（大山崎町）との間に架橋したという伝説に由来する。江戸時代には伏見(ふしみ)から大坂に向かう京街道の宿場として栄え、遊郭もつくられた。昭和半ばまで対岸とを結ぶ渡船場が残っていた。京阪電鉄本線の橋本駅がある。
