A typical example is the Chahār Bagh (four gardens) in Iran, which divide the garden into four parts at right angles (the Patio of the Lions in the Alhambra is another example). Water features include fountains and square artificial ponds (hauds). Islamic gardens are often flat with few undulating features, but on sloping ground, gardens are sometimes laid out in a stepped pattern, and waterfalls are sometimes created by taking advantage of the difference in height.
