Fluid machinery

Japanese: 流体機械 - りゅうたいきかい（英語表記）fluid machinery

A general term for machines that use the power of electric motors or turbines to pressurize and pump liquids such as water or oil, or gases such as air or gas (liquids and gases are collectively called fluids), or to extract power from them by using the pressure or speed of the fluid. They are broadly divided into the following four groups depending on whether the fluid they handle is liquid or gas, and whether they provide power to or extract power from the fluid. (1) Machines that pressurize liquids are all called pumps, regardless of the amount of pressure they increase. (2) Machines that pressurize gases, on the other hand, are divided into blowers and compressors depending on the degree of pressure increase.

水，油などの液体や，空気，ガスなどの気体(液体と気体を総称して流体という)を対象に，電動機やタービンなどの動力を使って流体を昇圧･圧送したり，あるいは流体の圧力や速度を利用してこれから動力を取り出す機械の総称。取り扱う流体が液体か気体か，流体に動力を与えるか取り出すかによって次の四つのグループに大別される。(1)液体を昇圧する機械は，その昇圧の大きさにかかわらず，すべてポンプと呼ばれる。(2)これに対して気体を昇圧する機械では，その昇圧の程度によって送風機と圧縮機に区別される。
