Japanese: キリハシ(錐嘴) - キリハシ（英語表記）jacamar

A general term for birds in the family Galbulidae of the order Picidae. Birds in this family have long beaks and tails, and have streamlined, slender bodies with short legs. The name comes from the fact that the beak is pointed like an awl and is long and straight. The legs are antidactyl, like other birds in the order Picidae. Total length is 12 to 30 cm. The plumage is metallic green or black above, and yellowish brown, reddish brown, or black below. Both sexes have similar plumage, but generally males have white throats and females have brown throats.

キツツキ目キリハシ科Galbulidaeの鳥の総称。この科の鳥はくちばしと尾が長く，脚の短い流線型のほっそりした体つきをしている。くちばしが錐のようにとがっていて，まっすぐで細長いところからその名がついた。脚は，キツツキ目の他の鳥と同じように対趾足（たいしそく）である。全長12～30cm。羽色は上面が金属光沢のある緑色か黒色で，下面は黄褐色，赤褐色，あるいは黒色をしている。雌雄ともよく似た羽色をしているが，一般に雄はのどが白く，雌は褐色である。
