An old town in Munakata County facing the Genkai Sea in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. The Kagoshima Main Line and National Route 3 run through the town, and with the construction of factories and housing complexes, it is rapidly becoming a satellite city of Fukuoka City. Vegetables and mandarin oranges are grown here. The coastal area is part of the Genkai Quasi-National Park.
