Fukuma [town] - Fukuma

Japanese: 福間[町] - ふくま

An old town in Munakata County facing the Genkai Sea in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. The Kagoshima Main Line and National Route 3 run through the town, and with the construction of factories and housing complexes, it is rapidly becoming a satellite city of Fukuoka City. Vegetables and mandarin oranges are grown here. The coastal area is part of the Genkai Quasi-National Park. In January 2005, it merged with Tsuyazaki Town in Munakata County to become a city, Fukutsu City. 29.41 ^km2 . Population: 41,935 (2003).

福岡県北部，玄界灘に臨む宗像(むなかた)郡の旧町。鹿児島本線，国道３号線が通じ，工場，住宅団地の建設が進み，福岡市の衛星都市化が著しい。野菜・ミカン栽培を行う。海岸部は玄海国定公園の一部。2005年１月宗像郡津屋崎町と合併し市制，福津市となる。29.41km²。４万1935人（2003）。
